Music has the power to heal the body, strengthen the mind, and unlock the creative spirit. Dennis Peterson, a soulful crooner import from the Bahamas embodies that power which transforms the die-hard music enthusiasts. Dennis began his musical career at age eight when he built his first guitar, later to be replaced by a real acoustic guitar at age 11 and electric bass at age 13. During his High School period, he joined a band called "The Puppets" and played at various functions and weddings. After studying electronics and perfecting his musical skills and a professional attitude for the business, Dennis launched his professional musical career with "Ezra and The Polkadots," one of the hottest bands in the Bahamas. He has also performed with the famous Count Bernadino, Ronnie Butler and the Rebels, Jay Mitchell, Ira Storr and the Spank Band and Frankie and Dream Quest. He has performed various music styles and popular songs in clubs throughout the Bahamas and several US cities. He is the Bass Player of choice for many Bahamian recording artists (see Music). His musical roots of calypso and meringue' are basic to his soulful approach to R&B sounds, with a universal appeal. Over the years he has performed at the Marriott Crystal Palace (5 years), Atlantis (ongoing for the past 12 years), and Radisson Hotels (5 years). He is currently performing at the new Paradise Island hotel RIU. Not wanting to be labeled a Club Performer, Dennis is embarking on a solo career to showcase his musical and songwriting talent to the international market. Incidentally, his career has been in front of international tourists who frequent the tranquil shores of the Bahamas. Dennis says that a song should be simple, authentic and reach out to the individual. This simplicity is expressed in his writing from personal experiences to identify with his audience. "New Branches" his upcoming release finds him keeping it sublime yet simple with a piano based and tenor saxophone laced set. On his songs he has sufficient space to showcase his smooth and simmering vocals. In his writings he creates an intimate mood that moves effortlessly through ballads and midtempo songs on the matters of the heart. Dennis takes you back to the soulful R&B sound, reminiscent of the days of the Temptations, Jerry Butler and Solomon Burke with a touch of R. Kelly and Luther Vandross. Like most international imports, Dennis knows that music is universal and will develop a following in the US like his fellow 'homeboys" T-Connection, Ray Munnings and Tony McKay (Exuma). Only time will tell! |
